Lady Lions Sweep 200-Meter Dash Podium in Final Tune-Up Prior to SLC Indoor Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team wrapped up its pre-Conference indoor schedule by placing eight on a podium, four at the top of it, Friday at the LSU Twilight at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.

The day started with Terrell Webb showing he was the class of the weight toss competition, surpassing 20 meters for the third time this season as his best throw of the day went 20.50 meters (67'3.25"), earning him the gold medal.

Slavko Stevic was the next to medal for the Lions, needing just four attempts in the high jump competition to earn the top spot on the podium, clearing 2.17 meters (7'1.5") on his first attempt at that height to claim the gold. With gold in hand, he set his sights on beating his own school record and further his claim to a spot in the NCAA Nationals in Boston, but his attempts at 2.22 meters (7'3.25") all resulted in the bar coming down.

Donroy Brown picked up Southeastern's third gold medal on the day, doing so with his final toss in the shot put which traveled 16.11 meters (52'10.25") to earn his place at the peak of the podium.

Stan Hamilton continued the success of the Lions in the field as he reached new lengths in the triple jump that he hasn't hit before as his best leap landed him 14.41 meters (47'3.5") away, a new personal best for him in the discipline while also earning a bronze medal.

Onyah Favour picked up the first medal for the women as she completed the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.22, good enough to bring a silver medal back to Hammond.

Then came the big moment for the Lady Lions, the 200-meter dash. Esther Nwanze, who ran the fastest leg of the SLU record-breaking 4x400-meter relay team a week ago, paced the field as she crossed the line in 25.40 seconds. But that wasn't all for SLU in that competition as the Lady Lions swept the podium with Marvellous Asemota crossing right behind Nwanze in 25.44, only to be followed by Immaculate Danial who stopped the clock in 25.48 to give Southeastern all three medals and end the day for the Lions as a team.

With the tune-up meets all complete, it's now time to run for championships as the Lions head to Birmingham next weekend for the two-day Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The SLC Indoor Championships open next Sunday and wrap up on Monday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
