Gr. Terrell Webb currently holds the SLC-lead in the weight throw heading into the closing weeks of the indoor season
HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team, riding a wave of success through the indoor season, will travel to Baton Rouge on Friday for the final indoor meet before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, taking part in the LSU Twilight at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
Friday's events start at 10 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Track events start at 1 p.m. with the women's mile run. Live results will be available through the host institution.
Southeastern is looking to build off the momentum of last week's performance in Samford's Bulldog Invitational where the women's 4x400 meter relay record fell while the Lions took home a total of 10 podium finishes.
With two meets remaining on the schedule,
Slavko Stevic looks to further cement his spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston in early March. He currently sits in 13
th in the national standings in the high jump, looking to make sure he stays inside the top-16 to qualify for a spot in Boston. His best leap in the high jump this season remains the 2.19 meter (7'2.25") jump he completed at the Samford Open last month.
Terrell Webb has been flirting with a top-50 spot in the weight throw this season, having broken 20 meters twice this season with his tosses, including last week in Birmingham where his best toss was a personal best 20.52 meters (67'4").
Stevic and Webb currently sit atop the conference in their disciplines, the high jump and weight toss, respectively, but several other Lions are looking to jump into a top spot heading into the conference championships, which start a week from Sunday. Among the Lions currently sitting in a podium spot in the conference,
Indya Jackson currently has the third-best time in the Southland in the 400-meter dash with
Esther Nwanze sitting right behind her in the standings.
Ava Pitarro's run at the Bulldog Invitational in the 5,000-meter run has her in third place in the SLC. The women's record-breaking 4x400-meter relay time is currently the second-fastest in the conference.
Donroy Brown's shot put from the last time SLU was in Baton Rouge would currently garner him a bronze in Southland competition.
Following this week's competition at the LSU Twilight, it's be the run for conference championships as the Southland Conference Indoor Championships will have the Lions head back to Birmingham, Ala. and the Birmingham CrossPlex for a third time this indoor season next Sunday and Monday.
