HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2024-25 schedule with three wins at the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational Friday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
Southeastern finished the day with wins over Loyola New Orleans, Louisiana Christian and Dillard. In Friday's other action, LCU earned a 3-2 victory over Loyola. The tournament was played under Fed Cup rules and was named for Fourmaux, the late former SLU assistant coach who lost his battle with cancer in February 2016.
 
Bente Bierma, Taisia Bolsova and Leana Gomez led the way for the Lions Friday, each finishing a combined 3-0 in singles play. The Southeastern trio of Aitana Darder, Panatchakorn Suanarsa and Claudia Di Leonardo were each 2-1, while Bogi Csordas teamed with Bolsova for a doubles victory versus Loyola.
 
"This was a great way to close the fall for us," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We're very thankful for all the teams that were able to join us for today's tournament and help us honor George."
 
Southeastern opened the day with a 4-2 victory over Loyola. Gomez, Di Leonardo and Bierma each earned singles wins, while Csordas and Bolsova paired for an 8-4 win in doubles action.
 
The Lions next swept past LCU, 5-0. Suanarsa, Bierma, Di Leonardo and Bolsova each won in singles play, while Gomez and Darder were successful in doubles play.
 
In the nightcap, Southeastern earned a 4-1 victory over Dillard. In doubles play, Suanarsa and Bierma defeated Messaline Ferret and Marcelina Kotytak, 6-0, 6-2.
 
Bolsova gave SLU a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Valentina Gomez. Darder rallied for down 4-1 in the second set to clinch the win with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Hang Nguyen. Gomez shook off a rough first set for a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 win over Truc Tran to close out the Lions' undefeated day.  
 
The Lions will open the spring season Jan. 26, hosting LSU Alexandria at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
