HAMMOND, La. – Mariam Makashvili will continue her academic and athletic endeavors as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team, SLU head tennis coach
Jason Hayes announced Wednesday.
Makashvili, who hails from the capital city of Tbilisi in the country of Georgia, will join the Lions for the 2025-26 season.
"Mariam represents the type of student-athlete we are looking to add to our program," Hayes commented. "She's a very talented player that we believe can come here and grow into a champion."
Makashvili, a top junior player in her native country, is excited to come to Hammond to further her academic and athletic career in the green and gold.
"I'm excited to join the team in August and looking forward to being part of something special," Makashvili said. "I can't wait to get started and work together with my teammates."
The 2024-25 Lions will open the spring season Jan. 26, hosting LSU Alexandria at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
