Strong Second Round Puts SLU in Fourth at LaTour Intercollegiate

Southeastern is one-under par heading into Tuesday's final round

MATHEWS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team sits in a tie for fourth place after the opening day of the LaTour Intercollegiate Monday at the LaTour Golf Club.
 
SLU finished the opening two rounds with a team score of 575 (-1) and is tied with Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin. The Lions and Lumberjacks enter Tuesday's final round 10 strokes back of day one leader South Dakota (-11). LSU's Nick Arcement, who is competing as an individual, leads the individual standings at eight-under par.
 
After an opening round 294 (+6), the Lions caught fire in the second round, as four Lions shot under par over the second 18 holes to fuel a 281 (-7) to close out the day. Southeastern led the field with two eagles and were second on the day with 39 birdies.
 
In just his second collegiate tournament, SLU freshman Preston Paulk had his best day of his young Lion career. The Slidell, Louisiana native backed up an opening-round 72 by carding a second-round score of 69. The three-under par showing has Paulk, in a tie for fifth place after the opening day of competition.
 
Southeastern's Patrick Blaum was the only player in the field with multiple eagles Monday and is in a tie for 21st place after shooting even par Monday. Landen East and Viggo Hed both shot under par in the second round and sit in a tie for 29th place at +3 on the day. Griffin Dorr (+9, T54th) rounded out the starting five for the Lions.
 
SLU will be paired with SLC rivals New Orleans, Nicholls and Texas A&M-Commerce for Wednesday's final round, which tees off at 8 a.m. Live scoring, provided by host Nicholls, will be accessible via the golf schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
