Southeastern Shines at Dillard Invitational

SLU comes home with three championships

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team took home three titles at this weekend's Dillard Invitational.

In addition to the three wins, the Lions made two other doubles finals. Southeastern head tennis coach Jason Hayes was pleased with his team's efforts in the successful weekend.

"We've had several tournaments canceled due to weather, so it was encouraging to see our players have success now that we're back facing competition," Hayes commented. "We were able to reach the finals in all three singles flights, which is a testament to our depth. We had several matches where we had to come back from a set down, which is a good sign of our fight and fitness."

The standout for SLU in the Big Easy was Panatchakorn "Fresh" Suanarsa. She won the "A" singles draw, while also teaming with Bente Bierma for a win in the "A" doubles bracket.

"Fresh worked hard this summer and came back this fall with a great attitude," Hayes said. "Her effort was tremendous this weekend and Bente continues to be our best doubles player."

In the "B" singles bracket, it was an all-Southeastern final as Claudia Di Leonardo and Aitana Darder both advanced to the finals. Hayes elected to have the two teammates share the championship.

"Claudia and Aitana play with such intensity and that would have been a very physical match," Hayes stated. "We have several tournaments left, so we wanted to preserve them for the rest of the fall."

Bogi Csordas reached the finals in the "C" singles bracket and advanced to the finals of the "B" doubles bracket with Darder. Di Leonardo and Taisia Bolsova advances to the consolation finals in their doubles bracket.

"Bogi's performance is a great example of how far she's come this fall after making some major changes to her game," Hayes commented. "We were glad to see Taisia back on court after being injured earlier this fall."

Southeastern will host the inaugural Southland Conference Masters, which runs Thursday through Sunday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. Bierma and Leana Gomez are slated to represent SLU in the single-elimination tournament versus league competition.
