HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University basketball teams open Southland Conference play, while the tennis and indoor track and field seasons start in January and SLU Athletics has plenty of off-the-field activities planned for the coming month.
 
The reigning SLC champion women's basketball team will Kick Off the New Year Jan. 11 with a 6 p.m. league contest versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the Pride Roofing University Center. Fans are encouraged to wear their freshest kicks when they come out to support the Lady Lions.  
 
The Southland basketball doubleheader versus Texas A&M-Commerce Jan. 20 in the Pride Roofing University Center will feature a pair of promotions. In conjunction with the women's basketball contest at 1 p.m., Southeastern welcomes the Hammond community for Family Day.
 
The 3:30 p.m. men's basketball contest will feature a reunion for all the kids who attended David Kiefer Basketball Camps this summer. All campers that return to campus will be able to be part of the pregame runout tunnel, be recognized at halftime and can stick around postgame for autographs from their favorite Lions.
 
The Lion baseball program is set to host the inaugural Lion Baseball Auction presented by Wiseguys Daiquiris and its annual Alumni Game Jan. 27. Season ticket holders are invited to pick up their 2024 season tickets at the Alumni Game as well.
 
The auction will be held on campus at the War Memorial Student Union. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour running until 7 p.m. Attire is business casual.
 
The event includes dinner and a cash bar as well as both a live auction and a silent auction. Individual seats are $75, children (12 and under) are $25 and reserved corporate sponsor tables (eight seats per table) are available for $500. Fans are encouraged to reserve their space as soon as possible.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Southeastern baseball program.
 
The Lions will also host an alumni game earlier in the day at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Admission to the scrimmage, which features Southeastern baseball alumni squaring off against the 2024 Lions, is free.
 
Baseball alumni wishing to participate in the game are also asked to RSVP through operations director Cade Lanoux at baseball@southeastern.edu or (985) 549-5130.
 
The PRIDE will sponsor Spotlight Players of the Game for the majority of Southeastern home games this season. The first 150 fans will receive trading cards featuring that day's Spotlight Players of the Game. Spotlight Players of the Game for January include Dijone' Flowers (Jan. 11), Mackenzie Thomas (Jan. 18) and Terri Crawford (Jan. 20).
 
The opening month of Inside Southeastern Basketball with David Kiefer will continue every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Rainbow Daiquiris Hammond (14834 W. Thomas St.) this month. The Jan. 9 show has been rescheduled to Jan. 10 because of the postponement of the Southeastern men's basketball game at Nicholls. Kiefer and host Mark Willoughby will talk all things Lion hoops weekly on 90.9 The Lion.
