HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football, volleyball and soccer teams will all continue Southland Conference play during October and SLU Athletics has plenty of off-the-field activities planned for the coming month.
 
Southeastern will host the annual Dig the Lions promotion in conjunction with the reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion volleyball team's Oct. 5 match at 6:30 p.m. versus HCU in the Pride Roofing University Center. The first 250 students attending the rematch of the 2022 SLC Tournament championship match will receive a free shirt courtesy of Southeastern Athletics.
 
Oct. 7 will be Community Day and Camp Reunion in the Pride Roofing University Center, as the SLU volleyball team takes on McNeese at noon. All members of the Hammond community and attendees of SLU volleyball camp are invited to come out and support the Lady Lions versus the Cowgirls.
 
The SLU men's and women's basketball seasons will tip off in November, but the Lions and Lady Lions will take part in the 2023-24 Southland Conference Basketball Media Day Oct. 10 at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana. SLC Media Day will air on ESPN+ starting at 10 a.m. with Southeastern's segment scheduled for 11:58 a.m.
 
The men's basketball team will be represented by head coach David Kiefer and guard Roscoe Eastmond. Representing the reigning SLC regular season and tournament champion women's basketball program will be 2022-23 Southland Coach of the Year Ayla Guzzardo and 2022-23 SLC Tournament MVP Hailey Giaratano.
 
The 30^th Annual Homecoming Golf Scramble is set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 13 at Oak Knoll Country Club in Hammond. Entrees are $150 for individuals and $600 for teams of four. Participants will receive a tee gift and lunch. Later that evening, the Southeastern soccer team will hold its second annual "Pink Out" in conjunction with its 7 p.m. conference game versus HCU. The Lady Lions will don their pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness.
 
The reigning Southland Conference champion SLU football team will host Lamar at 3 p.m. Oct. 14 for the annual Homecoming game in Strawberry Stadium. The Homecoming parade will roll through the Southeastern campus at 11:30 a.m. The 2023 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime.
 
The SLU soccer team will close out its home schedule Oct. 22, welcoming Nicholls to Strawberry Stadium for a 5 p.m. contest. On the field, the Lady Lions will look to retain the Crystal Cup for the third straight season. Prior to the game, Southeastern will honor its 2023 senior class in a special Senior Day ceremony.
 
When the Southeastern volleyball team welcomes Nicholls for a 6:30 p.m. contest Oct. 26, it will be Greek Night in the Pride Roofing University Center. All Southeastern fraternities and sororities are invited to come cheer on the Lady Lions versus the Colonels.
 
The 2023 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo continues on at its new home – Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux (305 CM Fagan Dr) in Hammond – in October. The hour-long radio show will air weekly Mondays at 7 p.m. throughout the football season on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM.
