HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football, volleyball, soccer, cross country, golf, tennis and softball teams will all be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern football team (0-4, 0-1 SLC) will close out nonconference play this week with its second straight home game. The Lions will welcome Tarleton State to Strawberry Stadium for a 3 p.m. contest Saturday. Saturday will be a Gold Out, as all fans are encouraged to wear gold.
The reigning Southland Conference champion SLU indoor volleyball team (11-4, 2-1 SLC) carries a five-match winning streak into the week's action. The Lady Lions return home for the first time a month Tuesday, hosting New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. SLU then heads to Nicholls Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. SLC contest. Southeastern returns home Saturday for an 11 a.m. matinee versus Texas A&M-Commerce in the Pride Roofing University Center.
The Lady Lion soccer team (2-6, 0-1 SLC) continues its three-match home stand this week. Sunday's match versus UIW was suspended with 2:49 remaining in the first half. The game will resume Monday at 10 a.m. in Strawberry Stadium.
Southeastern hosts Texas A&M-Commerce Friday at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Friday will be the Alumni Game, as all former Lady Lions in attendance will be honored at halftime. Sunday will see SLU host defending Southland champion Lamar at 5 p.m.
The Southeastern men's and women's cross country teams will head down to Thibodaux this week to compete in the Nicholls Invitational Saturday. The women's race is set for 8 a.m. with the men's race following at 8:30 a.m.
The SLU golf team will compete in its second tournament of the fall. The Lions will be in Madison, Illinois to participate in the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational Monday and Tuesday in Madison, Illinois.
The Lion tennis team will also compete in its second tournament of the fall this week. Southeastern will travel to Conway, Arkansas to take part in the UCA Fall Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The Southeastern softball team will open its fall exhibition schedule this week. The Lady Lions will welcome LSU Eunice to North Oak Park for a 10-inning exhibition Friday at 5 p.m.
On the Air
The Southeastern football game versus Tarleton State will be televised on ESPN+ and can also be heard on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM. This week's soccer action, as well as Tuesday and Saturday's volleyball matches will also air on ESPN+. Both soccer matches, as well as SLU's home volleyball matches also can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.
The 2023 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo continues Monday at 7 p.m. at Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux (305 CM Fagan Dr.). The weekly show will air each Monday during the football season on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM. Michele Sutton, North Oaks Health System President/CEP will be featured as Monday's Community Spotlight guest.
