Southeastern Wraps Up Play at Grover Page Classic

SLU returns to action Sept. 25-26 at SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team wrapped up its opening tournament of the 2023-24 season with final round play at the Grover Page Classic Tuesday at the Jackson Country Club.

The Lions finished 11th in the standings with a 54-hole team score of 889 (+25). Freshman Nicholas Wall, who was competing as an individual, shot the team's low round of the day, carding a one-over par 73 in the third and final round.

Senior Grayson Glorioso was the top finisher for Southeastern, recording a 221 (+5) to settle in a tie for 41st. Glorioso was the Lions' day one leader, shooting one-under par over Monday's first two rounds.

"Grayson is our lone senior and did a great job leading by example," Lion head coach Lawrence Allan said. "He set the tone for us Monday."

SLU newcomer Griffin Dorr, who led the tournament after shooting a first round 67, finished one stroke behind Glorioso (T46th, +6). Patrick Blaum (T66th, +9), Lexton Ford (T66th, +9) and Ethan Dial (T83rd, +17) rounded out the Southeastern lineup. Freshmen Wall (T83rd, +17) and Landen East (T60th, +8) competed as individuals this week.

"We had five players competing in their first Division I tournament, so this was a great learning experience for us," Allan commented. "We're a better team than we were coming into the tournament and we will only continue to improve."

Host UT Martin finished with a two-day score of 841 (-23) to win the tournament, besting runners up Missouri State and SIU Edwardsville by eight strokes. Missouri State's Hampus Wijkstrom maintained his day one lead, finishing 14-under par to win individualist medalist honors by four strokes.

The Lions will return to action next week, traveling to the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational Sept 25-26 in Madison, Illinois.
