Lions Finish Third, Lady Lions Fourth at LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University cross country team put up a pair of top-five finishes at the LSU Invitational with the Lions finishing third in the team competition while the women finished fourth Friday morning at the University Club.
 
Up first was the men's six-kilometer race, which saw the first top-five finish of the season for the Lions. Euan Lagan finished the 6K course in 18:59.3, crossing the line in fourth place overall. 13 seconds later, Noah Kiprotich stopped the clock for an 11th place finish, crossing in 19:12.0. Tim Anstett was next to finish for Southeastern, crossing in 25th in 20:37.2. Courtlin Baunchand finished 29th in 21:18.9. Darian Chestnut rounded out the scorers for SLU, stopping the clock at 21:51.8. The Lions finished the meet with 94 total points, good for third place in the team competition.
 
The women's five-kilometer race wrapped up the day in Baton Rouge. Nikola Vimmerová stopped the clock first for the Lady Lions, crossing in 12th place in 19:17.2. Anthonate Barsai was the next SLU runner to cross, stopping the clock in 21:56.5 in 27th place. 33 seconds later, Laney Wilkes stopped the clock for the Lady Lions, crossing in 22:39.4 for 31st place. Jacqueline Thring and Shanique Masters finished back-to-back with Thring in 34th at 23:35.0 and Masters in 35th in 23:45.2 to cap SLU's scoring. Southeastern completed the meet with 112 total points, finishing in fourth in the team competition.
 
After a week off, Southeastern will return to action on Sat., Sept. 30th at the Nicholls Invitational in Thibodaux. The Lady Lions will run a 5K course at 8:00 a.m. while the Lions will race on a four-mile course, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Nicholls Farm.
