HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University indoor volleyball and soccer teams open up Southland Conference play, while the football, cross country and tennis teams will also be in action and fans will be able to participate in the university's Giving Day during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The reigning SLC Tournament champion Lady Lion indoor volleyball team (6-3) will look to build off the momentum of huge nonconference road victories over LSU and Texas State. Southeastern will travel to Natchitoches to compete in the Battle for the Boot. SLU opens tournament play with a 7 p.m. contest Thursday at Northwestern State that doubles as the league opener.
 
The tournament continues with the Lady Lions facing in-state rivals ULM (Friday, 1:30 p.m.), Southern (Saturday, 10 a.m.) and Louisiana Tech (Saturday, 2 p.m.).
 
The SLU soccer team (2-5) will also head up to Natchitoches this week. The Lady Lions take on the Lady Demons Sunday at 4 p.m. to open conference play.
 
The reigning Southland champion Southeastern football team (0-2) will close out a season-opening road swing this week. The Lions will travel to Cheney, Washington to face Eastern Washington Saturday at 3 p.m. (Central).
 
The SLU men's and women's cross country teams will compete in their second meet of the season this week. The Lions and Lady Lions will be in Baton Rouge Friday morning for the LSU Invitational. The men's race starts the day at 8 a.m. with the women's race to follow at 9:15 a.m.
 
The Southeastern women's tennis team will join the soccer and indoor volleyball squads in Natchitoches. SLU will compete in the Northwestern State Invitational Friday and Saturday in Natchitoches.
 
Southeastern Giving Day is Wednesday and provides an opportunity to support your favorite causes at Southeastern both academically and athletically. Lion and Lady Lion fans can support anyone of Southeastern's 16 Division I sports, as well as the national champion SLU cheerleaders and Lionette dance team, sports medicine, sport performance and KSLU Radio. The Southeastern football game at South Alabama will be televised on ESPN+ and can also be heard on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM. Thursday's volleyball match and Sunday's soccer contest will also be televised on ESPN+.
 
The 2023 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo continues Monday at 7 p.m. at Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux (305 CM Fagan Dr.). The weekly show will air each Monday during the football season on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM. Chanc Kinchen, owner of Cena; Hammond will be Monday's Community Spotlight guest.
