HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University placed 117 student-athletes on the Southland Conference Spring 2023 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which was released by the league office Wednesday.
 
Southeastern's honorees were among a contingent of 1,269 student-athletes league-wide on the list. Student-athletes from the sports of baseball, basketball, golf, softball, tennis, track and field and beach volleyball with a 3.0 grade point average or higher for the spring 2023 semester were eligible for inclusion on the Southland Conference Academic Honor Roll.
 
Of the 117 student-athletes representing SLU, 36 finished the spring 2023 semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Conference-wide, a total of 336 student-athletes (26.5 percent) of the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll members were 4.0 students for the semester.
 
The list of Lions and Lady Lions include 14 All-Southland Conference, 14 SLC All-Academic and 14 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees. Five Southeastern standouts on the list – Flory Bierma (women's tennis), Hailey Giaratano (women's basketball), Putri Insani (women's tennis), Slavko Stevic (men's track and field) and Lara Zupanc (women's track and field) – earned all three honors this past season.
 
The Southeastern baseball program led the department with 32 honor roll members, which was good for second in the SLC. The SLU softball team followed with 18 selections – the third-highest total in the conference.
 
The Lion men's track and field program was fourth in the Southland with 17 honorees. The SLU women's track and field team placed 14 on the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll. The Southeastern beach volleyball program was also fourth in the league with 13 representatives.
 
The SLU women's tennis team was third in the Southland with nine representatives. Representatives from men's basketball (six), women's basketball (five) and men's golf (three) rounded out the Southeastern contingent.
