Southeastern Adds Three for 2023-24

Newest SLU trio includes Bolsova, Di Leonardo and Gomez

HAMMOND, La. – Three student-athletes will continue their academic and athletic endeavors as members of the Southeastern Louisiana University tennis program, SLU head coach Jason Hayes announced Friday.

The newest members of the Lion tennis family will all be freshmen for the 2023-24 season. Taisia Bolsova, Claudia Di Leonardo and Leana Gomez will team with 2022-23 signee Bente Bierma, who sat out this past season, to give SLU a quartet of new faces in the coming season.

The influx of talent will join with a solid returning nucleus. All-Southland Conference performer Kate Oborina leads a crew of three veteran starters, along with Carla Del Barrio and Alba Perez.

"Coming off a positive season and with the talent we have returning, we had the luxury of searching for players that fit our style and approach," Hayes commented. "We're excited to welcome Taisia, Claudia and Leana to campus. I was impressed with all three during the recruiting process and they will help us continue to push for future success in the Southland Conference."

Bolsova is a native of Palafrugell, Girona, Spain. She earned a top-150 ranking in Spain and had success in both singles and doubles play in tournaments in her native Spain and Mexico. Bolsova plans on majoring in marketing at SLU.

Di Leonardo hails from Marseille, France and has won multiple regional tournaments in her hometown. Ranked in the top 3 in the PACA region and as high as 20th in France, Di Leonardo participated in multiple French championships and twice played in the Les Petits As World Championships. She will major in marketing at Southeastern.

Gomez is from Miami, Florida, where she moved from her native Venezuela and recently won a L4 tournament in Delray Beach, Florida. She represented Venezuela and earned a silver medal in the South American Games. Gomez won multiple singles and doubles titles in Venezuela and won the COTECC in the Dominican Republic. Gomez plans to major in business administration.
