Box Score LAKE CHARLES, La. – The second-seeded Southeastern Louisiana University softball team scored early and often on the way to a 13-1 victory over Northwestern State to close out day two of the Southland Conference Softball Tournament Wednesday at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond.
As a result of two games getting washed out, Southeastern (46-12) will now play top-seed McNeese, which won Friday's first game, 2-1, over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Thursday at 6:30 p.m. A full reworked bracket is available at
www.Southland.org. NSU (25-26) will face Lamar in an elimination contest Thursday at 1:30 p.m. All tournament games are going to be broadcast on ESPN+.
SLU scored four runs in both the first and second innings, before plating five more in the bottom of the third.
Lexi Johnson led Southeastern with four RBI, while
Maria Detillier added three.
Audrey Greely hit her sixth home run of the season, as she and
Maddie Watson each had two RBI in the offensive explosion.
All the firepower was more than enough for Lady Lion ace
KK Ladner (15-1). The Kiln, Mississippi native scattered two hits and struck out six on the way to winning her 14
th consecutive decision.
After enduring a nearly three-and-half hour weather delay in the bottom of the first inning, Southeastern returned to the plate with a runner on second and one out.
Bailey Krolczyk drew a walk to put a pair of on, then Johnson singled home
Cam Goodman. After Krolczyk scored on a passed ball, Greely hit her second home run of the tournament off the left field scoreboard to stake SLU to a 4-0 advantage.
Southeastern added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning. Detillier singled home the frame's first two runs, followed by Krolczyk's league-high 18
th double of the season to put SLU up, 7-0.
Maddie Watson followed with an RBI single of her own to put the Lady Lions ahead, 8-0.
NSU cut the lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Taylor Williams that pulled the Lady Demons to within 8-1.
Southeastern came right back in the bottom of the third inning. A Detillier bases loaded sacrifice fly plated the first run of the frame, then Johnson cleared the bases with a three-run triple off the top of the centerfield fence.
Maddie Watson followed with an RBI double to score Johnson and extend the SLU advantage to 13-1.
From there, Ladner made the lead stand up, as Northwestern State could get no closer in a mercy rule victory for the Lady Lions.
