Lady Lions Continue Road Swing With SLC Series at UIW

SLU (32-8, 7-2 SLC) faces Cardinals in 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday and 1 p.m. contest Saturday on ESPN+

HAMMOND, La.– The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will continue its nine-game road swing with a three-game Southland Conference series at UIW this week.

The series between the Lady Lions (32-8, 7-2 SLC) and the host Cardinals (11-18-1, 3-6 SLC) opens with a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes with a 1 p.m. contest Saturday. The series will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats, provided by host UIW, will be accessible via the softball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern heads to San Antonio riding a seven-game winning streak. The Lady Lions have outscored opponents, 55-9, with four shutouts during their current run including two in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep at Jackson State.

SLU leads the Southland with a .313 team batting average. Bailey Krolczyk (.393, 3rd) and Maria Detillier (.356, 7th) both rank in the top 10 in batting average. Audrey Greely (.330), Lexi Johnson (.322), Cam Goodman (.320), Ka'Lyn Watson (.317) and Madison Rayner (.306) gives SLU seven regulars hitting above .300. Detillier has scored a league-high 35 runs, Krolczyk is second in the SLC with 44 hits and Goodman has swiped a conference-best 24 bases.

Krolczyk leads the SLC in slugging percentage (.696), OPS (1.093) and doubles (11), while also sharing the league lead in RBI with Johnson with 36 apiece. The Lady Lion duo also is tied for second in the Southland with seven home runs apiece. Johnson also shares the conference lead with four triples.

Southeastern is second in the Southland with a 2.43 team earned run average. KK Ladner (9-1, 1.38 ERA) leads the league in ERA, opposing batting average (.186) and strikeouts (113), while Cera Blanchard (12-4, 2.36 ERA, 2 saves) is the conference wins leader. Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux (7-2, 2.12 ERA, 1 save) is currently on a 20.1 scoreless innings streak and joins Ladner and Blanchard among the league leaders in ERA, opposing batting average and wins.

The trio of Ladner, Blanchard and Comeaux are the leaders of a staff that also includes Southeastern career saves leader Ellie DuBois (0-0, 5.25 ERA, 2 saves), Alyssa Romano (1-0, 2.50 ERA), Lainee Bailey (0-0, 3.41 ERA, 1 save), Chyanne Ellett (2-1, 10.50 ERA) and Leah Marshall (1-0, 2.47 ERA).

The SLU pitchers will be facing a UIW lineup that is hitting .252 as a team. Ryleigh Mata has a team-best .326 batting average, while Kendall McGary (12 RBI) and Victoria Altamirano (3 HR) are the other leading hitters.

Much like Southeastern, the host Cardinals (5.11 team ERA) use plenty of arms in the circle. Aaliyah Garcia (3-6, 4.55 ERA, 1 save), Annie Gunther (5-4, 4.01 ERA), Madison Floyd (1-5, 5.97 ERA) and Samantha Portillo (1-2, 7.26 ERA) have all seen significant time sharing the pitching load for UIW.

Following this weekend's series, Southeastern will return to the Lone Star State for a three-game SLC series at HCU. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader April 14 and concludes with a noon contest April 15. The series with the Huskies will be televised on ESPN+.
