Will Face Two Teams Receiving Votes in Top 25 Over Course of Weekend

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University Beach Volleyball team looks to build off the momentum of a senior day win last week as the Lady Lions head to South Carolina for four matches at the Carolina Challenge this weekend, hosted by Coastal Carolina University Friday and Saturday at the Coastal Carolina Beach Volleyball Complex, including two matches against teams receiving votes in the latest AVCA Beach Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Southeastern (6-15) ended a five-match losing streak in its last match, finishing a season sweep of the NAIA's then #8-ranked team, William Carey, with a 4-1 win at the Southeastern Beach Volleyball Complex. It was the second time this season that the Lady Lions knocked off the Crusaders by a 4-1 margin, having defeated WCU during the opening weekend of the season at the Southern Mississippi Hub City Beach Bash. With two weekends remaining in the regular season, SLU is looking to gain momentum ahead of the rapidly-approaching conference tournament.

SLU opens the Carolina Challenge early in the morning on Friday, kicking things off with a battle against Division II University of Tampa. The Spartans (12-11) have won five straight, which started with a win over fellow Southland foe Houston Christian, and six out of their last seven as Tampa looks to finish its final weekend of the regular season strong. Opening serve of the match between Southeastern and Tampa is set for 8:00 a.m. EDT/7:00 a.m. CDT on Friday.

The Lady Lions wrap up day one of the Carolina Challenge early as SLU immediately turns around and takes on Division II Erskine College in the second match of the day. The Flying Fleet (4-21) saw its season-long win streak hit two matches by winning its first match at the Bears Beach Bash at Mercer last weekend over Berry College, but dropped the final two matches of that event to Mercer and Tennessee-Chattanooga to wrap up its action before this weekend's match-up with SLU. Opening serve of the match against Erskine is set for 12:00 p.m. EDT/11:00 a.m. CDT Friday.

Day two of the Carolina Challenge for Southeastern starts with a battle against the tournament hosts, Coastal Carolina. The (RV) Chanticleers (17-8) bounced back from a 2-2 weekend at the Stetson Beach Invitational, where it lost its final match after winning two straight, by going to North Carolina-Wilmington last Saturday and won both matches, taking down the host UNCW and Jacksonville University. Opening serve against Coastal Carolina is set for 12:00 p.m. EDT/11:00 a.m. CDT on Saturday.

SLU wraps up play at the Carolina Challenge with a match against the College of Charleston. The (RV) Cougars (15-6) enter the Carolina Challenge as winners of seven straight, including all four of their matches last weekend at the UNCW Tournament where they defeated both Sun Belt foe UNCW and Jacksonville twice. Opening serve between SLU and Charleston is set for 2:00 p.m. EDT/1:00 p.m. CDT on Saturday.

All matches of the Carolina Challenge will be played at the Coastal Carolina Beach Volleyball Complex.
