Gr. Kristian Jackson is currently in line to qualify for NCAA East Regionals in two disciplines
FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team picked up yet another Southland Conference weekly honor as
Kristian Jackson's performance in discus and shot put earned her another SLC Women's Field Athlete of the Week award, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Jackson, a graduate student from Zachary, La., extended her SLC-leading mark in the discus on Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold meet as she launched a toss of 54.40 meters (178'6"), a new personal best for Jackson in that discipline which also gave her the best discus throw from a Southland Conference competitor by almost ten full meters after the weekend's action. The throw earned her a bronze medal at Saturday's event and moved her up to 21
st in the NCAA East Standings, well inside the mark currently needed to qualify for the NCAA East Regional.
She followed that up with a throw of 14.70 meters (48'2.75") in the shot put, earning her a fourth-place finish in shot in Baton Rouge on Saturday. While not a personal best nor a season best, it was still longer than any throw from any other Southland Conference competitor this outdoor season. Her season and personal best, which came at the LSU Battle on the Bayou, still has her in line to qualify for the NCAA East Regional in shot put as well.
This week's honor is Jackson's fifth career SLC Field Athlete of the Week award and third of the 2023 outdoor season.
Jackson and the rest of the Lions now get ready for the 2023 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships which runs May 4
th-6
th at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce, Texas.
