So. Katrine Olsen looks to improve marks in multiple events
HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team heads to the state capitol on Saturday, looking to get in the best form possible in the final tune-up before the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships when SLU takes part in the LSU Alumni Gold meet at the Bernie Moore Track Complex.
All eyes will be on
Slavko Stevic, SLU's current record holder in the high jump for both indoor and outdoor competition. He set his personal best last week at the Strawberry Relays at Southeastern as he cleared 2.22 meters (7'3.25"), breaking the old SLU school and SLU track facility mark while in the process earning him the SLC's Track Athlete of the Week award. He now sits third in all of Division I following that jump. At LSU, he will look to break that mark again, and see if he can best the current highest jump in the nation, currently sitting at 2.24 meters (7'4.25").
Not to be outdone in the high jump competition,
Katrine Olsen looks to better her current conference-leading mark of 1.76 meters (5'9.25"), which she set the last time the Lions were in Baton Rouge at Southern at the Pelican Relays.
Kristian Jackson set two marks that still lead the Southland from the last trip to LSU. At the Battle on the Bayou, she had a throw in the shot put go 15.42 meters (50'7.25") while her toss in the discus went 51.24 meters (168'1"), both still atop the SLC today.
Another person looking for a big day is someone who already had a day on LSU's campus,
Omri Shiff. Last month, at the Battle on the Bayou, Shiff finished the 400-meter hurdles competition in 50.81 seconds, at the time the third fastest time in the nation. That time still stands as the best time in the Southland in that discipline. He'll be looking to get a similar or better time with this trip to Baton Rouge.
Also looking to better a conference-leading time is the 4x400-meter men's relay team. Their run at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays currently sits 4.5 seconds faster than the second-fastest team in the conference this outdoor season.
The LSU Alumni Gold meet all takes place on Saturday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on LSU's campus.
