HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University Beach Volleyball team is the five seed heading into this weekend's double-elimination Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament, looking to make a run for a title at the Water's Edge Park in Corpus Christi, Texas.
 
The SLC Tournament kicks off on Friday with the fifth-seeded Lady Lions (8-21) taking on a foe they are all too familiar with this season, fourth-seeded New Orleans. Southeastern dropped two of the three matches against the Privateers (18-15), but will enter the match with momentum after SLU knocked off UNO 4-1 to end the regular season last Friday at the Privateer Beach Invitational.
 
Opening serve of the first-round match between the Lady Lions and Privateers is set for 12:15 P.M. with the winner of the match turning right around and playing the top-seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders (21-9) went undefeated against Southland Conference competition this season. Meanwhile, the team that drops the SLU/UNO match falls into the elimination bracket where their first match will match-up against either third-seeded Boise State or sixth-seeded San Jose State at 10 a.m. on Saturday, the first of potentially three matches on Saturday.
 
The first matches of the day will be the fours where Alexis Logarbo and Harlee Tupper have been paired the last few weeks, and fives, which Mabry Ward and Ysabella Lockwood have held down most of the season. They will look to score early points before the ones, twos, and threes begin. Once that starts, the new top pair of Jolie Hidalgo and Meagan Scuderi look to keep their winning ways going since being paired up two weeks ago. Mia McKinney and Carley Petty have been locked in at the number two pair while Eryn Wilks and Jackie McGee will be in the number three match-up, looking to get the necessary points to close out matches.
 
The other two participants in the tournament are the second-seeded Houston Christian Huskies and seventh-seeded Nicholls State Colonels.
 
The 2023 Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament starts at 10 a.m. on Friday with the Championship Round starting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. All matches of the tournament will be held at the Water's Edge Park in Corpus Christi, Texas.
