SLU Fields Athletes in Seven Events at Meet Seen as Potential National Championship Preview

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team will get the chance to compete against a lot of the top talent in the country starting on Wednesday at the 95th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

The Lions will be represented in seven events over the four-day event, two of which Southeastern will be represented on both the men's and women's sides. While the event starts on Wednesday, the first event with SLU athletes is on Thursday as both the men's and women's track teams will race in the 400-meter hurdles. On the men's side, Agerian Jackson and Omri Shiff will race with Shiff trying to improve on his top-five time in the nation and potentially break the school record. In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Indya Jackson and Esther Nwanze will run and jump against the top hurdlers in the country.

Friday will see the vast majority of SLU athletes in action. Cohen Gallant will run in the 100-meter dash. Both Cole Palmer and Olu Ogunyemi will race in the 110-meter hurdles. Southeastern will field three different relay teams on Friday as well. In the 4x100-meter relay - Eugene Omalla, Jaimie Omalla, Shiff, and Gallant will run with Ogunyemi, Agerian Jackson, Javon-Taye Williams, and Palmer alongside them. In the 4x400-meter relay, the Omalla brothers will team with Agerian Jackson, Shiff, and Williams able to run for the Lions in the event.

Two of Southeastern's three track athletes will also compete on Friday as both Slavko Stevic and Katrine Olsen will compete in the high jump. Stevic, who qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships this year in the high jump currently leads the Southland, is fifth in the South-Central region, and 11th in Division I in that discipline this outdoor season following the LSU Battle on the Bayou.

On the final day of competition, all track finals will take place, giving the Lions track athletes a second chance to run should they qualify for the finals in their event. The lone field athlete set to compete on Saturday will be Kristian Jackson in the discus. Jackson is currently third in the region and first in the Southland in discus following her performance last week at LSU.

The 95th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays start Wednesday at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, which will also host the NCAA Outdoor National Championships at the end of the season.
