Southeastern Earns Doubleheader Sweep at Alcorn State

All 24 players see action as SLU improves to 27-8 overall

LORMAN, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team swept a doubleheader from Alcorn State in nonconference play Tuesday afternoon at the Lady Braves Softball Complex.
 
Southeastern (27-8) used a total team effort in the two victories, as all 16 position players and eight pitchers saw action Tuesday. Alcorn State fell to 7-20 overall with the loss.
 
SLU opened the day with a 5-3 victory. Madison Rayner and Maddie Watson each collected two hits to lead a 10-hit Lady Lion attack. Lexi Johnson hit her team-high seventh home run of the season, as she and Colleen Kulivan both drove in a pair of runs.
 
MC Comeaux (5-2) allowed one hit in 3.1 innings of shutout relief to earn the win in the circle. Cera Blanchard closed out the victory in the seventh to earn her second save of the season.
 
The Lady Lions scored 11 runs in the first three innings of the way to a 13-4 run-rule victory in the nightcap. Johnson was 3-for-3, while Cam Goodman and Rayner each had two hits in a 15-hit showing for SLU. Johnson, Bailey Krolczyk and McKayla Ferguson each had two RBI, while Rayner, Sadie Hewitt, Madison Hebert, Lainee Bailey and Maddie Leal also drove in runs.
 
Bailey, Chyanne Ellett (2-1), KK Ladner and Alyssa Romano combined to hold Alcorn State to four hits in Tuesday's second game.
 
Southeastern will return home to host Texas A&M-Commerce for a three-game Southland Conference series, opening with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday. Fans will have the opportunity to spin the prize wheel and enjoy postgame fireworks at Friday's game.
 
The series closes with a noon contest Saturday. Fans will have a chance to win prizes by playing Bingo at the Ballpark and kids will have a chance to run the bases postgame. The series will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at www.LionSports.net/sidearmstats/softball.
