HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will continue its 21-game road swing this weekend at The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Florida.
The tournament slate for SLU (13-2) includes games versus UAlbany (Friday, 11:30 a.m.), Georgetown (Friday, 2 p.m.), Central Michigan (Saturday, 9 a.m.), Yale (Saturday, 11:30 a.m.) and LIU (Sunday, 10:30 a.m.). The games will be streamed on FloSoftball.com (paid subscription required).
Southeastern opened its trip to the Sunshine State with a 10-4 win over FAMU.
Lexi Johnson and
Maria Detillier each went 3-for-4 at the plate to fuel an 11-hit Lady Lion attack.
Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux earned the win in the circle, while
Lainee Bailey was credited with her first collegiate save.
The Lady Lions head into the tournament with a .346 team batting average.
Bailey Krolczyk leads the team with a .444 average, followed closely by Johnson (.432) and Detillier (.414). Johnson, Detillier and
Cam Goodman share the team lead with 11 runs scored apiece.
Johnson leads the team with three home runs and 18 RBI, while she and
Madison Rayner each have a team-high two triples. Krolczyk,
Maddie Leal and
Maddie Watson are tied atop the team with three doubles apiece.
Eight different Southeastern pitchers have combined for a 1.84 team earned run average and to hold opponents to a .195 batting average.
KK Ladner (2-1, 1.02 ERA),
Cera Blanchard (6-0, 0.80 ERA, 1 save) and Comeaux (3-0, 1.54 ERA) have handled the majority of the work, while Bailey (0-0, 4.20 ERA),
Ellie DuBois (0-0, 1.11 ERA),
Alyssa Romano (0-0, 2.80 ERA),
Leah Marshall (1-0, 2.80 ERA) and
Chyanne Ellett (1-1, 9.00 ERA) have also seen action in the circle.
SLU opens the tournament versus UAlbany (1-4), which has a .254 team batting average led by Jordan Nastos (.400). Wendi Hammond (1-2, 3.11 ERA) has handled the majority of the work in the circle for UAlbany.
Friday's second opponent is Georgetown (2-10), which is hitting .217 as a team and is led by Kayla Dunn (.440) and Cameron Kondo (2 HR, 9 RBI). Brooke Plonka (2-4, 2.08 ERA) and Julia Parker (0-3, 5.25 ERA) are the top arms for a Hoya staff that has a 4.15 team ERA.
Saturday opens with the Lady Lions taking on a Central Michigan (3-6) lineup that is hitting .288 with Abby Tolmie (.467) as its top hitter for average and Kelsey Alexander (2 HR, 8 RBI) its most productive power threat. Kaitlyn Bean (1-3, 4.64 ERA) and Grace Lehto (1-2, 7.11 ERA, 1 save) have logged the most innings in the circle for the Chippewas, who enter the weekend with a 6.50 staff ERA.
Yale (2-3) awaits in Saturday's nightcap and comes to Florida with a .198 team batting average behind Willa Ferrer (.375). Emma Taylor (0-2, 3.77 ERA) leads the Bulldog pitching staff (3.46 team ERA).
Southeastern faces LIU (6-9) in Sunday's tournament finale. LIU has a .222 team batting average, led by Alexia Castro (.313, 8 RBI) and Mari Narvaiz (3 HR, 8 RBI). Kira Buckner (2-3, 1.78 ERA), Alyssa O'Donnelll (2-3, 3.03 ERA) and Lindsey Cowans (2-3, 4.40 ERA) have split time in the circle for LIU, which has a 2.93 team ERA.
After returning home for Florida, Southeastern will head to Southern Miss for a 6 p.m. contest March 8.
