Sr. Terrell Webb bested his previous hammer throw personal best by 6 meters on Saturday
LAFAYETTE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team kicked off its 2023 outdoor schedule a day later than anticipated due to weather and still took home six medals in five events, two won by
Thomas Nedow, from the Louisiana Classic Saturday from the Home Bank Track and Soccer Facility on the campus of the University of Louisiana – Lafayette.
With only limited participation after Friday's weather altered the day one schedule, the Lions got things started well on the field. Nedow picked up his first medal of the day as his throw of 15.57m (51'1") in the shot put was good enough to win a silver medal.
Seth Pagart also set a personal best in that event as he finished seventh with a throw of 13.76m (45'1.75").
Terrell Webb took home Southeastern's lone gold medal on the day in the hammer throw event as he destroyed his own personal best of 54.41m with a throw of 60.02m (197') to take the top spot on the podium.
Katrine Olsen made her mark on the day in the hammer throw as well as her throw of 49.39m (162') earned her a bronze medal.
The Lions men put on a show in the discus throw, taking two medals and three of the top five spots overall. Nedow again led the way with a throw of 45.94m (150'8") which earned him a silver medal.
Micah Miller was right on Nedow's heels with a toss of 43.86m (143'10"), earning him bronze. Pagart finished not far behind in fifth with a throw of 43.15m (141'7").
Noah Kiprotich led the SLU track performers on the day as he earned the other medal for the Lions, taking home a silver in the 1,500m run by crossing the line in a personal best time of 3:57.48.
Laney Wilkes also set a personal best of her own as she finished the 800m run in 2:27.77.
The Lions return to action next Saturday in Baton Rouge as Southeastern takes part in the Battle on the Bayou at LSU's Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
