Southeastern Hosts Bryant, NJIT

Expected rain Friday moves Bryant match to 4 p.m. Thursday; SLU welcomes NJIT Saturday at 11 a.m.

HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team will conclude a four-match home stand with a pair of matches against Southland Conference affiliate members this week at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

Because of expected inclement weather Friday, the Lions (4-5) have moved their scheduled match with Bryant (7-5) up to Thursday at 4 p.m. NJIT (6-4) comes to town Saturday for an 11 a.m. match. The matches do not count towards the conference standings, but could influence seeding in next month's Southland Conference Tournament.

Putri Insani leads Southeastern with a 6-1 singles record, while Flory Bierma (5-3), Carla Del Barrio (5-3), Gabrielle Dekkers (4-2), Alba Perez (4-3) and Bogi Csordas (2-0) also boast winning singles marks this spring. Dekkers has the longest winning streak currently for SLU with three straight singles victories.

In doubles play, Insani and Bierma (5-2) have won five straight matches as the Lions' No. 1 duo. Dekkers and Del Barrio have posted a 2-1 record since becoming the No. 2 doubles team for Southeastern.

Natalia Vela leads Bryant with a 7-4 record in singles play. Vela and Sarah Hickey, as well as Camila Baeza and Manuela Estrada each are 5-4 in doubles action for the Bulldogs.

NJIT comes in town with six players with winning singles marks, including four with a team-high five wins. Paula Menendez Alvarez and Shalom Salvi carry a team-best 4-2 doubles record in dual match action for the Highlanders.

Following this week's action, Southeastern will open Southland Conference play at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
