HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team will make its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, while the baseball, softball, tennis and beach volleyball teams host nonconference opponents and the track and field teams open the outdoor season during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Southland Conference regular season and tournament SLU women's basketball team (21-9) will be the No. 15 seed in Seattle Regional 4. Southeastern will face Big Ten Conference tournament champion and second-seeded Iowa (No. 2 AP/No. 3 WBCA Coaches) Friday in Iowa City, Iowa. Should the Lady Lions upset the Hawkeyes, they will face either No. 7 seed Florida State or No. 10 Georgia in Sunday's second round. Game times will be announced Monday morning.
 
Fresh off taking two of three at No. 11 Auburn, the Southeastern baseball team (11-5) will return home for four games at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The Lions host Southern Miss Tuesday at 6 p.m. In conjunction with the midweek contest, fans can enjoy fun and games at the Block Party Presented by Barn Hill, as well as exotic animals at the Barn Hill tent.
 
The Lions will then welcome Memphis for a three-game series at The Pat. The series opens with a 6 p.m. contest Friday. General admission tickets are available for $5 every Friday during the season. The two teams will meet for a 2 p.m. contest Saturday. Fans will have a chance to win prizes by playing Baseball Bingo every home Saturday at the Pat. The series wraps up with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday. All military personnel (active and veterans) will receive free admission every Sunday with a military ID.
 
After enduring a 21-game road swing, the SLU softball team (20-5) will return home for the first time in a month to host No. 14 LSU at 6 p.m. at North Oak Park. The game will feature the Flood the Field promotion as SLU students will receive free t-shirts and food while supplies last.
 
Southeastern will then open Southland Conference play on the road with a three-game series at Lamar. The series opens with a 3 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes with a noon contest Saturday.
 
The Lion tennis team (4-4) hosts three contests this week at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. SLU will host Gonzaga Tuesday at 2 p.m., before welcoming SLC affiliate members Bryant (Friday, 1 p.m.) and NJIT (Saturday, 11 a.m.).
 
The Southeastern beach volleyball team (4-9, 1-3 SLC) will host UTEP Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Southeastern Beach Volleyball Complex. The Beach Lions will then head to Youngsville, Louisiana to compete in the LionUp Beach Bash at the Youngsville Sports Complex. SLU will face Nicholls (11 a.m.) and North Alabama (5 p.m.) Friday, before taking on New Orleans (1 p.m.) and ULM (5 p.m.) Saturday.
 
The Southeastern track and field teams will open the outdoor season this week. The Lions and Lady Lions will be in Lafayette Friday to compete in the Louisiana Classics.

This week's baseball and Wednesday's softball game are scheduled to be televised on ESPN+ (campus internet availability permitting). The 2023 edition of Inside Southeastern Baseball with Matt Riser continues Monday at noon from the patio at Cate Street Seafood Station. Riser will join co-host Allen Waddell at lunchtime every Monday during the season for the 60-minute show, talking the latest in Southeastern baseball. Cate Street Seafood Station is located at 308 S.
