ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team member Slavko Stevic is set to participate in the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday as he competes in the high jump event at 2:00 p.m. CST/1:00 p.m. MST at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
 
"We're really excited to watch Slavko compete tomorrow," said SLU head track & field coach Michael Rheams. "We know he's ready."
 
Stevic, a junior from Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, qualified for the NCAA Indoor Nationals thanks to his school record performance in the high jump at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships as he became a conference champion in the event with a jump of 2.21m (7'3"). That jump put him in a tie for ninth-best in the nation, inside of the top-16 performances throughout the season needed to qualify.
 
His qualification has the entire Southland Conference watching and rooting him on as one of just two athletes from conference schools to qualify.
 
"It's not just a win for Southeastern, but the entire Southland Conference," continued Rheams. "We've gotten calls from coaches all over the conference congratulating him and saying they noticed how ready he looked just by the way he competed at the conference championships. We know the entire conference is rooting for Slavko in the high jump just like we'll join the rest of the conference in cheering on Northwestern State's Zachaeus Beard in the 60-meter dash. We want to show that world class athletes can be found in the Southland Conference."
 
The high jump competition starts on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CST/1:00 p.m. MST at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
