HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team will compete in the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, the men's and women's basketball teams will celebrate Senior Day, the beach volleyball team opens the 2023 season, the baseball and softball teams will look to build on their respective undefeated starts, while the tennis team will also be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Lions and Lady Lions will compete in the league indoor meet, which opens Sunday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The Southland meet concludes Monday, Feb. 27.
 
The Southeastern men's (15-13, 9-6 SLC) and women's basketball (17-8, 12-3 SLC) teams have both clinched their spots in next month's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Basketball Championships presented by Louisiana Travel.
 
After Saturday's thrilling victory at Texas A&M-Commerce, the Lions have the inside track for a top-four finish in the SLC standings heading into the final full week of the regular season. SLU opens the week with a 7 p.m. contest at Lamar, before closing its home schedule versus McNeese Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Guards Boogie Anderson, Matt Strange and Christian Agnew, as well as student managers Deuce Woodson and Jamar Gant will be honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
 
The Lady Lions sit atop the conference standings and enter the week needing one win to secure a bye into the SLC Tournament semifinals as a top two seed and can clinch a share of its first-ever Southland championship with two victories. Thursday's 5 p.m. game at Lamar features the league's two hottest teams, as both enter on six-game winning streaks.
 
SLU welcomes McNeese Saturday at 1 p.m. in the 2022-23 home finale. The quartet of Cierria Cunningham, Chrissy Brown, Natalie Kelly and Jaylen Huderson will be honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
 
The SLU beach volleyball team opens its 2023 season this weekend at the Southern Miss Invitational. The Beach Lions will face Spring Hill (noon), Chattanooga (2 p.m.) and Southern Miss (6 p.m.) Saturday, before closing out play with a 3 p.m. match versus William Carey Sunday.
 
Fresh off a season-opening four-game series sweep of Lafayette College, the Lion baseball team (4-0) opens its 2023 road slate with a 6 p.m. game Tuesday at Jackson State. Southeastern then returns home to host a three-game series versus Samford at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
The series opens with a 6 p.m. contest Friday. General admission tickets are available for $5 every Friday during the season. The two teams will meet for a 2 p.m. contest Saturday. Fans will have a chance to win prizes by playing Baseball Bingo every home Saturday at the Pat. The series wraps up with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday. All military personnel (active and veterans) will receive free admission every Sunday with a military ID.
 
The SLU softball team (9-0) will look to extend its school-record undefeated streak this week, when it continues its 21-game road swing with a trip to the Easton Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Its tournament slate opens Friday versus Indiana State (11 a.m.) and host Alabama (6:30 p.m.). Saturday will see SLU take on the Crimson Tide again at 1:30 p.m., before facing Kennesaw State at 4 p.m. The Lady Lions wrap up the tournament with a 10:30 a.m. contest versus Indiana State Sunday.
 
The Lion tennis team (0-3) has three matches on tap this week. Southeastern opens the week with a 2 p.m. match versus Dillard Monday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. SLU then hits road for weekend, facing Southern Saturday and Jackson State Sunday. Both weekend matches are scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Southland Conference Indoor Championships, Thursday's basketball doubleheader and the baseball series at Samford will be televised on ESPN+. The Saturday basketball doubleheader can be seen on ESPN3, while the softball's two games versus Alabama during the Easton Bama Bash will air on SEC Network+.
