Record-Breaking Jump Bests 18 Year Old SLU Mark

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team got a record day from Katrine Olsen, who set a new program indoor high jump record, highlighting SLU's day at the LSU Twilight indoor meet at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.

Slavko Stevic got the day started off with a big day in the high jump. Clearly showing he's getting into peak form heading into next week's Southland Conference Championships, Stevic reset his season best high jump for the second week in a row by clearing 2.15m (7'0.5") which was good enough to take the gold medal, enhance his Southland Conference-best jump of the year, move into fourth in the south-central region, and move into 22nd in the nation as he looks to qualify for the NCAA National Indoor Championships.

Up next was the women's high jump, which is where Olsen made her mark in Southeastern history. She cleared 1.75m (5'8.75"), besting the SLU indoor high jump record of 1.74m (5'8.5") which was done at the 2005 Southland Conference Indoor Championships by Janice Ezegbunum. Olsen's jump was good for the silver medal on the day, gives her the highest jump in the Southland Conference this season, and puts her in 11th in the south-central region.

Cole Palmer added a bronze medal in the 60m hurdles, finishing the Final in a time of 8.21.

SLU finished the day with two more gold medals on the track with Gerson Pozo finishing first in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 49.44 in the Final. Noah Kiprotich took home Southeastern' final medal from Baton Rouge on the day by crossing the line first in the 800m run, stopping the clock at 1:55.52.

The Lions look for a Southland Conference Championship and final qualifications for the NCAA National Indoor Championships next Sunday and Monday, Feb. 26th-27th in Birmingham, Ala. at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
