HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University and Louisiana Tech softball teams will put their matching undefeated starts on the line when the two teams meet Wednesday at 5 p.m. at North Oak Park.
The game between SLU (3-0) and the visiting Lady Techsters (3-0) will be televised on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at www.LionSports.net/sidearmstats/softball.
Southeastern opened the season with last weekend's three-game sweep of defending Missouri Valley Conference Tournament champion Missouri State.
Lexi Johnson (Hitter of the Week) and
Cera Blanchard (Pitcher of the Week) were both honored by the Southland Conference for their efforts in the three wins over the Bears.
The Lady Lions are hitting .360 as a team with Johnson leading the way with a .750 batting average.
Maria Detillier,
Madison Rayner and
Audrey Greely share the team lead with one home run, while Johnson and Rayner have each driven in a team-high three runs.
SLU enters Wednesday's contest with an 0.70 team earned run average, led by Blanchard (2-0, 0.00 ERA).
KK Ladner (0-0, 1.40 ERA), MC Comeaux (0-0, 0.00 ERA),
Chyanne Ellett (1-0, 0.00 ERA),
Lainee Bailey (0-0, 0.00 ERA) and
Ellie DuBois (0-0, 4.20 ERA) have all seen action in the circle for Southeastern.
Louisiana Tech comes to Hammond after a season-opening three-game sweep of Southeast Missouri last weekend. Bailey Wright (.500) and Alyssa Dean (.500) lead a LTU lineup that has a .304 team batting average.
Six different pitchers have combined for a 0.45 staff ERA. The top Lady Techster arms are Allie Floyd, Brook Melnychuk and Lauren Menzina – all who are 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA on the young season.
Wednesday's game will close out a season-opening four-game home stand for SLU. Southeastern opens a stretch of 21 games away from home this weekend, when it heads to Youngsville, Louisiana to compete in the Mardi Gras Mambo. The Lady Lions face Manhattan (2 p.m.) and Toledo (4 p.m.) Friday, Gardner-Webb (3 p.m.) and St. Thomas (5 p.m.) Saturday and Florida A&M Sunday at 11 a.m.
