Southeastern Closes Fall at George E. Fourmaux Invitational

Perez, Csordas lead Lions in final fall competition

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule this weekend, hosting the George E. Fourmaux Invitational at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

The tournament, which featured student-athletes from Southeastern, Lamar, LSU Alexandria, Louisiana Christian and Dillard, was named for Fourmaux, a former SLU assistant coach who lost his battle with cancer in 2016. In honor of Fourmaux and to raise cancer awareness, each member of the Southeastern roster wore ribbons during the three-day competition.

Alba Perez was a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles play to lead the Lady Lions, while Bogi Csordas was a perfect 4-0. Claudia di Leonardo, Bente Bierma and Carla Del Barrio each had three victories on the weekend.

"We have a young team and played a wide range of competition throughout our fall season," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes commented. "What was encouraging about this group is that we were a little better every time out. We finished the fall strong at our home tournament and we want to carry that momentum into the spring season."

Southeastern will open the spring season Jan. 20 with a 3 p.m. match at LSU.
