HAMMOND, La. – The Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University indoor volleyball team will look to win a second straight SLC Tournament championship, the SLU football team hosts the River Bell Classic, the Lady Lion basketball team hosts the reigning national champions and the Southeastern men's basketball team continues a challenging road swing during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
Fresh off winning the first Southland regular season championship in program history, the SLU volleyball team (26-4) carries a 20-match winning streak into the postseason and will be the top seed, earning a bye into the semifinals for the conference tourney, which is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday in Corpus Christi, Texas. Southeastern will face either HCU, Northwestern State or Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
The semifinal winners will meet in the championship match Sunday at 2 p.m. The tournament winner earns the Southland's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
 
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Lion football team (3-7, 3-3 SLC) will close out its 2023 season Thursday, hosting Southland champion Nicholls at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Burns Estate Planning and Wealth Advisors will be Thursday's game sponsor.
 
Thursday will be Heroes Night, as all first responders and military personnel receive free admission by presenting a valid ID.
 
The 2023 senior class of Herman Christophe IV, Tyrone Legette, Arlen Williams, Zachary Clement, Jacob Logan, Victor Tademy, Austin Dunlap, Robert Buqoui, Anthony Britton Jr., Mateo Rengifo, Taylor Martin, Garrett Crawford, John Allen, Rodney Sopsher, Slade Ziegler, William Granville, Jalen Bell, Marcellus Johnson, Tanner Olsen and Tyrik Mitchell will be recognized in a special Senior Day ceremony approximately 30 minutes before Thursday's kickoff.
 
The reigning Southland Conference regular season and tournament champion Southeastern women's basketball team (1-1) will unveil its Southland Conference championship banners prior to Tuesday's 6 p.m. contest versus Southern-New Orleans in the Pride Roofing University Center. Players will also be available for postgame autographs, while the first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring Spotlight Player of the Game Kennedy Paul, courtesy of PRIDE.
 
On Friday, SLU will welcome reigning national champion LSU to a sold-out Pride Roofing University Center Friday at 7 p.m. in a contest sponsored by North Oaks Health System. Alexius Horne is Friday's Spotlight Player of the Game and the first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the All-SLC guard from Baton Rouge, courtesy of PRIDE.
 
Parking in the lots adjacent the Pride Roofing University Center will cost $10 (cash only). Parking lots immediately outside of Gates 1,3,5 and 7 are reserved for fans sitting in Top Cat seating (Gates 1 and 3), game participants (Gate 5) and credentialed media (Gate 7).
 
Free parking will be available in the lots adjacent to the Southeastern Track and Field Complex, the Pennington Student Activity Center and the Cate Teacher Education Center south of University Avenue. Fans using free overflow lots will be required to utilize the pedestrian tunnel to cross University Avenue.  
 
Tailgating will be limited to Cook Field – the grassy area between the PRUC and the Alumni Center.
 
Three concession stands will be open in the Pride Roofing University Center with each accepting both cash and credit/debit cards. Additional select vendors will be located throughout the Pride Roofing University Center concourse. Spectator entrance to the venue will be available at Gates 1,3 and 4.
 
The SLU men's basketball team (1-1) will continue its five-game swing of contests away from home this week. The Lions will travel to face BYU Wednesday at 8 p.m. before taking on Santa Clara Sunday at 7 p.m.
 
On the Air
Every Southeastern event this week will be televised on ESPN+ with Wednesday's men's basketball game also Saturday's football game can be heard live on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM. Monday's basketball action, Tuesday's women's basketball game can also be heard in the Hammond area on 90.9 The Lion, while Friday's women's basketball game will be heard on a to be announced Northshore Broadcasting affiliate.
 
The 2023 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo continues Monday at 7 p.m. at Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux (305 CM Fagan Dr.). The weekly show will air each Monday during the football season on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM. Ernie Burns of Burns Estate Planning and Wealth Advisors will be featured as Monday's Community Spotlight guest.
