SLU To Host Cross Country Event for First Time at Covey Rise Lodge

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University cross country teams will make the short ride up to Husser, La. on Saturday to host the inaugural Lion Up Invitational at the Covey Rise Lodge with the men running an eight-kilometer course at 8:00 a.m. while the women will start at 8:30 a.m. on a five-kilometer course.

This is the second of three-straight weekends of races for the Lions, who are expecting to see several top runners in action this week after they were rested at last week's Nicholls Invitational.

The Lions look to get Euan Lagan back on the course after he missed last week's run in Thibodaux. He's led Southeastern in both races he's ran so far this season and is coming off of a top-five finish his last time out, crossing the line in fourth at the LSU Invitational three weeks ago. Tim Anstett was Southeastern's top runner in Thibodaux last week, finishing in 26th.

On the women's side, SLU looks to get its top performer from the first two meets of the season back in Nikola Vimmerová. Vimmerová also did not compete at the Nicholls meet after being the first Lady Lion to cross the finish line in the first two meets prior, including a 12th place finish at LSU three weeks ago. In her stead, Ava Pitarro had a good run in the front for Southeastern at Nicholls as Pitarro had her first career top-10 finish, crossing the line in Thibodaux in eighth place.

Live results for both of Saturday's races will be available at LionSports.net courtesy of Chipped Timing. Southeastern wraps up this run of three straight weekends of meets next Saturday at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
