SLU Freshmen Continue Improvement at USM Invitational

Southeastern closes fall by hosting George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational Nov. 3-4

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southeastern Louisiana University freshmen Taisia Bolsova and Bente Bierma continued their steady improvement as the SLU tennis team competed in its latest fall tournament this weekend at the USM Invitational.

The Lion duo was joined by fellow freshman Leana Gomez, who continues to work her way back from an injury. Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes was pleased with the progress he saw from his newcomers against stiff competition at Southern Miss.

"The level of maturity this group showed this weekend gives me high hopes for the spring," Hayes commented. "I was so impressed by their overall attitude and effort."

Hayes praised his young Lions for learning from their previous fall outings.

"We played our most tactically sound tennis of the fall this weekend," Hayes said. "We put the things we've been working on at practice out on the court and if we continue to do so, we'll be successful this spring. Bente and Taisia played doubles together for the first time and I was really proud of how they competed."

Southeastern will have a chance to close out the fall on a high note, hosting the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational Nov. 3-4 in Hammond.
