East, Dorr Notch Top-10 Finishes to Key Runner-Up Showing for SLU in Fall Finale

Southeastern closes fall by shooting seven-under par at LaTour Intercollegiate

MATHEWS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team closed out the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule with a second-place finish at the LaTour Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at the LaTour Golf Club.

Southeastern finished with a 54-hole team score of 857 (-7) to finish second to Stephen F. Austin. The Lions shot the second-lowest final round, but couldn't hold off the Lumberjacks, who carded a seven-under 281 to finish with an 851 (-13) for the week.

SLU was one of six Southland Conference schools among the 10-team field and were the top finishers among the SLC competitors this week. Southeastern was able to shoot under par for the first time this season and closed out fall competition with by far its best effort of 2023-24.

"This was a very promising performance for us to finish out the fall," SLU head coach Lawrence Allan commented. "We're of course disappointed that we couldn't leave here with a tournament win, but we're pleased to be the top Southland finisher among the field. We're a young team, but we've improved tremendously this fall and gained some valuable experience. We're looking forward to continued improvement this spring."

A pair of newcomers notched top-10 finishes for Southeastern. Freshman Landen East finished in a tie for third place, shooting five-under par over three rounds. East was three strokes behind individual medalist winner Brooks Pawlak of HCU. East was joined in the top 10 by teammate Griffin Dorr (T8th, -1).

"Landen and Griffin had a great week for us," Allan said. "They both work super hard and it was great for them to see that effort pay off in results."

All five Lions carded at least one round under par this week, as Colby Sullivan bounced back from a tough Monday to shoot a final-round 71 (-1). Grayson Glorioso (+1, T18th), Patrick Blaum (+5, T26th) and Sullivan (+7, T30th) rounded out the SLU individual finishers.

Southeastern will open the spring portion of its 2023-24 schedule at the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate, which tees off Feb. 26-27 in New Orleans.
