East, SLU Sit in Second After Opening Day of LaTour Intercollegiate

Lions are one stroke off lead heading into Tuesday's final round

MATHEWS, La. – Led by freshman Landen East, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team sits in second place after Monday's opening two rounds of the LaTour Intercollegiate at LaTour Golf Club.
 
Southeastern finished with a 36-hole team score of 565 (-11) and is stroke off the day one lead, held by HCU (-12). The Lions fired a first-round 280 (-8) to hold the lead after 18 holes and backed it up with a three-under par round of 285 to close out the day.
 
Paced by East, SLU led the field with a two-over par on par 4's on the day. East was the best player among the field on par-4 holes (-5). Southeastern had the most pars on the day, while finishing third among the field with 39 birdies.
 
East carded an opening-round 67 to share the individual lead after the initial 18 holes. The Sulphur, Louisiana native backed it up with a 71 (-1) in round two and is two shots behind day one leader Brooks Pawlak of HCU (-8) heading into Tuesday's final round.
 
East was one of four Lions to shoot under par Monday. Griffin Dorr sits in a tie for fourth at -3, while SLU veterans Grayson Glorioso and Patrick Blaum finished one-under par over the first two rounds to sit in a tie for 13th. Colby Sullivan (+8, T43rd) rounded out the Southeastern five.
 
Tuesday's final round is scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m. and live scoring, provided by host Nicholls, will be accessible via the golf schedule page at www.LionSports.net. SLU will be paired with Southland Conference rivals HCU and New Orleans for the final 18 holes.
