Lions Finish Final Prep Run at Watson Collegiate Classic

Two New Personal Bests Set as Attention Turns to SLC Championships

CLINTON, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University cross country teams took part in their final tune-up prior to the Southland Conference Championships at the Watson Collegiate Classic, hosted by Mississippi College, with the men's team not starting enough runners to register a team score while the women finished 11th Friday morning at the Choctaw Trails.
 
Noah Kiprotich was the only men's team member on the line when starting pistol fired, and he made the time alone count, running his personal best in the eight-kilometer distance, touching the finish line in 16th place in a time of 26:04.1.
 
The women then lined up to run a six-kilometer course and it was Ava Pitarro who led the Lady Lions home as she completed her first attempt at the 6K distance in 24:54.3, good for 33rd place. Anthonate Barsai also set a personal best in a 6K, finishing her second run of that distance in 26:13.1, good for 74th place. In her first 6K, Shanique Masters crossed in 80th place in 26.32.0. Jacqueline Thring also got her first 6K experience, finishing in 101st in 27:47.9. And in her collegiate debut, Alivia Buley came home in 123rd, finishing in a time of 29:19.1.
 
Now the Lions turn their attention to the Southland Conference Championships, looking for a conference title and times to qualify for the NCAA South-Central Regional Championships. The SLC Championships are scheduled Fri., Oct. 27th at the Windcrest Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas. The women will run a 6K course started at 8:30 a.m. while the men will start at 9:30 a.m. and traverse an 8K course.
