HAMMOND, La. – Northwest Florida State College pitcher Allison Brunson will continue her athletic and academic endeavors as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University softball program, SLU head coach Rick Fremin announced Saturday.
 
Brunson, who is entering her sophomore season in Niceville, Florida, will join the Lady Lions for the 2024 season. The Jena, Louisiana native is the eighth member of SLU's '24 signing class. She joins fellow Louisiana products Chloe Bennett (Rosepine), Addison Contorno (Livingston), Breanna Fontenot (Moss Bluff), Faith Kivett (Tallulah), Mykail Lusco (Harahan), Chloe Magee (Watson) and Gabby Mitchell (Eunice), who all signed in November.
 
As a freshman at Northwest Florida State, Brunson started 27 of the 33 games she appeared in and posted a 14-6 record with a 2.63 earned run average. The right-hander struck out 143 batters in 144.0 innings pitched on the way to being named first team All-Panhandle Conference.  
 
Brunson helped Jena High School to a Class 3A state championship as a senior. She was named first team all-state and District 3-3A for her efforts. Brunson is a product of the Louisiana Bombers travel ball organization.
 
"Allison will be an excellent addition and add depth to our pitching staff," Fremin commented. "She has competed at a high level in high school and junior college. We're not only adding a talented player, but a quality person from a great family."
 
Brunson's future teammates will open the 2023 season Feb. 10, hosting Missouri State at 5 p.m. on the opening day of the Lion Classic at North Oak Park. The season opener and all of SLU's home games this spring will be televised on ESPN+.
