Southeastern Heads to Texas

HAMMOND, LA.  –  The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team has a two-game Texas trip ahead of them this weekend. The Lady Lions will play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi  Thursday night at 5 p.m. in Corpus Christi  and UIW Saturday at 1 p.m. in San Antonio.

Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be accessed on www.goislanders.com and www.uiwcardinals.com.

SLU started out strong in Southland Conference play as they opened up with a road win against Nicholls 57-49 back on Dec, 31. The Lady Lions would then continue a two-game win streak in their 63-58 victory over HCU. The win streak would be broken by Lamar as it would take home a 57-47 win over Southeastern.

Hailey Giaratano led the Lady Lions with 19 points in the game against HCU with Cierra Cunningham coming behind with a season high of 18. Natalie Kelly would come up with 11 rebounds and Alexius Horne ended the game with three assists. Giaratano would continue to lead the Lady Lions with 11 points against Lamar. Chrissy Brown ended the game with six rebounds and Horne would follow with five.

The first game on the road this week for the Lady Lions will be against the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders (8-6, 3-0 SLC). TAMU-CC is currently one of two undefeated teams left in the Southland Conference and are on a three-game win streak after winning against Northwestern State 65-50, UIW 59-51 and 65-58.

The second game before heading home will be against UIW (5-8, 0-3 SLC). The UIW Lady Cardinals lost their last two games to TAMU-CC in the first week of January and are on a four-game loss streak.

Southeastern will come home for a three-game stretch with match ups vs. Northwestern State, (Jan 19) Texas A&M-Commerce (Jan 21) and New Orleans (Jan 26) before taking on New Orleans (Jan 28) at its home court.
