HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2022 cross country season at the New Orleans Cross Country Opener Friday night at Lake Oaks Park.
The Lady Lions finished sixth in the meet hosted by UNO. The Southeastern men were seventh in the standings.
Ines Legendre was the top finisher on the women's side, finishing with a time of 15:14.43 over the 4,000-meter course. Also competing for SLU were
Hannah Linebaugh (15:53.29),
Johanna Helmrich (16:50.14),
Anthonate Barsai (17:48.14),
Laney Wilkes (19:37.13) and
Patricia Corradi (19:38.73).
Chris Norman was the leading finisher for the Southeastern men, covering the 5,000-meter course in 17:29.16. Norman paced a Lion contingent that included
Darian Chestnut (18:42.04),
Tristen Pugmire (19:21.33),
Landen Schillage (20:06.28), Coutrlin Baunchand (20:40.20) and
Cole Palmer (28:00.45).
Friday's meet was the first of three preseason meets for Southeastern, before the Lions and Lady Lions compete in the Southland Conference Championships next month in Thibodaux. Following the opener, Southeastern will travel to the Nicholls Invitational scheduled for Sept. 17.
