HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2022 season at the New Orleans Cross Country Opener Friday night at Lake Oaks Park.
The women's race opens the evening's action at 6 p.m. Representing the Lady Lions in the 4,000-meter race will be
Anthonate Barsai,
Patricia Corradi,
Johanna Helmrich,
Ines Legendre, Hannah Linebaugh and
Laney Wilkes.
The men's race is set for the 6:45 p.m. nightcap. Tackling the 5,000-meter course for SLU will be
Courtlin Baunchand,
Darian Chestnut,
Chris Norman,
Cole Palmer,
Tristen Pugmire and
Landen Schillage.
"We have a completely new team on both sides and we're excited to see them compete," Southeastern head track and field/cross country coach Michael Rheams commented. "We're looking to test the waters with a very young team at a good course down in New Orleans and continue to build momentum towards the conference meet."
Friday's meet will be the first of three preseason meets for Southeastern, before the Lions and Lady Lions compete in the Southland Conference Championships next month in Thibodaux. Following the opener, Southeastern will travel to the Nicholls Invitational scheduled for Sept. 17.
