Southeastern Places Seven on Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete List

SLU crew of Blackford, DuBois, Mass, Rayner, Rizzo, Romano and Watson awarded for classroom efforts

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team placed seven student-athletes on the 2021-22 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete list, which was released Monday.

Representing Southeastern were Madisen Blackford, Ellie DuBois, Aeriyl Mass, Madison Rayner, Lindsey Rizzo, Alyssa Romano and Maddie Watson.

Rizzo and DuBois earned All-America scholar-athlete accolades for the second straight season. It was also the second career nod for Blackford, who was an honoree following her freshman campaign.

It was the latest honor for Mass, as the 2021-22 SLU Female Athlete of the Year added to a senior-season trophy haul that included earning All-Southland, All-Louisiana and Southland All-Academic honors. Blackford joined her on the SLC All-Academic team, while both Rayner and Watson were all-conference honorees with Rayner also garnering All-Louisiana notice.

Southeastern was one of 150 Division I program with a 3.0 team grade point average or higher for the 2021-22 academic year. SLU finished 2021-22 with a 3.27 team GPA. This past spring, 16 Lady Lions earned a spot on the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Southeastern will open the 2023 season at home, hosting Creighton at 3 p.m. Feb. 10 to open the Lion Classic at North Oak Park. The fall exhibition schedule opens with a Sept. 30 contest versus LSU Eunice at 5 p.m. at North Oak Park.
