HAMMOND, La. – Talented pitcher Chyanne Ellett will continue her academic and athletic endeavors as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University softball program, SLU head coach Rick Fremin announced Friday.
 
Ellett is the 11^th member of the 2023 signing class. The Brownwood, Texas native will come to Hammond with two years of eligibility remaining.
 
Ellett spent the 2022 season at Tarleton State after beginning her collegiate career at Memphis. As a true freshman in a 2020 season shorted by COVID-19, Ellett was 9-2 with a 2.65 earned run average and a save for the Tigers.
 
Ellett was a dominant performer at Brownwood High School in a prep career that also saw her play high level club ball for the Texas Glory. The three-time all-state and two-time district MVP tallied 1,239 strikeouts, 18 no-hitters and two perfect games. A multi-faceted student-athlete, Ellett was also a four-time academic all-state honoree and was a standout in the discus for the BHS track and field team.
 
"We recruited Chyanne out of high school, so we've been familiar with her for a long time," Fremin commented. "Chyanne is a good student and possesses a very unique skill set and arsenal of pitches that we believe will allow her to be dominant in the Southland Conference. Our team and staff are excited to have Chyanne join our program."
 
Ellett and her future teammates will open the 2023 season at home, hosting Creighton at 3 p.m. Feb. 10 to open the Lion Classic at North Oak Park. The fall exhibition schedule opens with a Sept. 30 contest versus LSU Eunice at 5 p.m. at North Oak Park.
