SLU Places School-Record Six on All-Louisiana Teams

Mass, Greely, Krolczyk, Rayner, Zumo and Goodman represent Southeastern among state's best

HAMMOND, La. – The 2022 Southeastern Louisiana University softball team added to an impressive tally of single-season school records by setting a new program standard with six representatives on this year's Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Softball Teams, which were released by the LSWA on Friday.

Southeastern's contingent was led by first team senior outfielder Aeriyl Mass. A trio of Lady Lions – sophomore designated player Audrey Greely, junior second baseman Madison Rayner and sophomore catcher Bailey Krolczyk – claimed second team honors. Rounding out the SLU representatives were senior pitcher Heather Zumo and sophomore outfielder Cam Goodman, who were both honorable mention selections.

The six all-state selections topped the previous mark of five set by the 2013 team. It's just the latest mark for a Southeastern team (40-16) that posted its best record in school history on the way to setting new single-season school marks for wins, winning percentage (.714), fewest losses (16), runs (341), hits (488), doubles (92), RBI (282), batting average (.334), on-base percentage (.403), total bases (710), slugging percentage (.485) and batters struck out (325).

Mass, who last month was named first team All-Southland Conference for the second straight season, is just the third Lady Lion to be named first team All-Louisiana in back-to-back years, joining SLU Athletics Hall of Famers Karin Smith (2004-05) and Voncia Bookman (1992-93). The Lake Charles, Louisiana native led the Southland with 73 hits and 33 stolen bases to go with a .410 batting average, 44 runs scored, 14 doubles, four home runs and 34 RBI.

Mass was one of two repeat All-Louisiana selections for the Lady Lions, along with Greely, who was a second team choice at outfielder in 2021. The Geismar, Louisiana native was the first player in school history to earn first team All-Southland honors at the designated player position this season. Greely hit .344 on the season with 10 doubles, 32 runs scored and 23 RBI.

All three of SLU's first team All-Southland selections were represented on the all-state team, as Krolczyk became the first Southeastern catcher since Smith in 2004 to earn first team all-conference recognition after an impressive debut season. The Corpus Christi, Texas native posted a .333 batting average with 34 runs scored, 51 hits, nine doubles, three home runs and 23 RBI in her first season out of McLennan Community College.

Krolczyk was one of two newcomers to earn All-Southland Conference and All-Louisiana notice in their debut campaigns in Hammond, as Rayner added a second team all-state nod to her previous second team all-conference recognition. The Stringer, Mississippi native came to Southeastern from Southern Miss and had an immediate positive impact, finishing the season with a .327 batting average, 36 runs, 16 doubles, five home runs and 44 RBI.

Zumo was named honorable mention All-Louisiana for the second straight season and the third time in her career, as she earned the recognition as a sophomore at LSU Eunice in 2019. The SLU ace capped her Lady Lion career by leading the Southland and in wins, finishing 20-5 with a 2.42 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 144.1 innings pitched. Of the 10 no-hitters in program history, the Baton Rouge, Louisiana native played a part in four.

Goodman earned her first All-Louisiana nod after leading the team and ranking third in the Southland with a .426 batting average. The speedster from Marrero, Louisiana added 38 runs, 55 hits, two triples and 30 stolen bases on the season.

One future Lady Lion also earned All-Louisiana honors on Friday. LSU Eunice outfielder Madalynn Leal, who will join SLU for the 2023 season, hit .414 for the Bengals on the way to earning second team All-Louisiana notice.

A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of sports media and sports information directors selected the All-Louisiana team, based on statistics and performances through the teams' conference tournaments. SID's were not permitted to vote for their institution's student-athletes.

UL Lafayette third baseman Jourdyn Campbell was named Louisiana Player and Newcomer of the Year. Bossier Parish Community College's Primrose Aholelei was tabbed the state's Pitcher of the Year. Louisiana Tech outfielder Sierra Sacco took home Freshman of the Year honors, while James Landreneau of McNeese was selected Coach of the Year.

Southeastern will open the 2023 season at home, hosting Creighton at 3 p.m. Feb. 10 to open the Lion Classic at North Oak Park. The fall exhibition schedule opens with a Sept. 30 contest versus LSU Eunice at 5 p.m. at North Oak Park.
