HAMMOND, La. – Bradley Makuvire,
Thomas Nedow,
Slavko Stevic and
Terrell Webb were each named to the 2022 Academic All-Southland Track and Field team for Southeastern Louisiana University, the league office announced Tuesday.
Makuvire, a sophomore, finished the semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.20 in Psychology earning his first spot on the conference's yearly academic team. The Zvishavane, Zimbabwe native won the 3k and 5k Southland Indoor Championship races while placing second in the 10k at the outdoor conference championships in May.
Nedow, out of Brockville, Canada, also made his first appearance on the team earning a 3.54 GPA in athletic training. The Southland Indoor shot put champion back in February, Nedow also finished on the podium in the weight throw at the event. The senior placed in the top six at the Southland Outdoor Championships in the shot put (2
nd), discus (3
rd) and hammer throw (6
th).
Stevic won the Southland Indoor and Outdoor high jump championships. As a result, the Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia product earned a spot on the Academic All-Southland for the second straight year after turning in a 3.96 GPA in computer science. The 2022 NCAA East Regional qualifier, Stevic also set a new personal best in the high jump of 7-1.75 (2.18m) at the conference outdoor championships.
Rounding out the selections for the Lions was Webb who ended the semester with a 3.28 GPA in sports management. The sophomore earned a runner-up finish in the hammer throw and sixth place in the javelin at the conference outdoor championships.
HBU's Kaitlin Smith and UIW's Parker Barrett were named men's and women's Southland Student Athletes of the Year, respectively.
