Jackson, Rodrigue, and Nedow Earn Podium Finishes During Day 2 of Southland Outdoor Championships

SLU Earns Three Podium Finishes, Eight Advance in Saturday's Prelims

HUMBLE, Texas – Kristian Jackson (women's shot put), Wjuantereuas Rodrigue (men's triple jump) and Thomas Nedow each earned top three finishes for the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team Saturday during the second day of the 2022 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships at Turner Stadium in Humble, Texas.
 
Jackson, out of Zachary, Louisiana, made her way to the podium for the second straight day after finishing runner up in the hammer throw Friday. The senior threw 50-6.75 (15.41m) Saturday to earn second place in the shot put.
 
Rodrigue, a freshman, placed second as he leaped 48-8 (14.88m) for a personal best. The St. Amant, Louisiana native also secured fourth place in the long jump later in the day while Southeastern's Jaden Williams finished sixth in the event.
 
Nedow, out of Brockville, Canada, earned third place in the shot put firing one 53-1/3 (16.30m). Nedow was joined by teammate Robin Vrbek who also scored in the event placing seventh.
 
Southeastern's Terrell Webb rounded out the scoring for the day as he secured sixth place in the men's javelin.
 
In the qualifying round, SLU had eight student-athletes advance to the finals Sunday in their respective events.
 
On the men's side, Agerian Jackson ran the fastest qualifying time in the 400m hurdle, setting a personal best of 51.28. Jackson, out of Trelawny, Jamaica, will try to secure the gold medal as he will be joined by teammate Omri Shiff Sunday at 2:10 p.m. in the 400m hurdle finals. Shiff placed eighth in the qualifiers to earn a spot in Sunday's final.
 
In the 400m, Eugene and Jamie Omalla and Gerzon Porzo each qualified for the finals. The three finished second, fourth and seventh, respectively, as the trio will be in action Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with a 200m gold medal up for grabs.
 
Rounding out the men's qualifiers for the Lions, Cole Palmer advanceD to the 110m hurdles finals set for Sunday at 12:50 p.m. SLU's Noah Kiprotich secured his spot in the 800m final Sunday at 1:50 p.m.
 
On the women's side, Porsha Miles had a solid day. Out of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Miles set a personal best in the 200m qualifier of 24.87 as she will race in the finals Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The freshman will also see action in the 100m Sunday at 1 p.m. after advancing in Saturday's prelims.  
 
The team's balanced effort drew the praise of fifth-year SLU track and field head coach Corey Mistretta.
 
"Wow, another great day for the Lions," said Mistretta. "We put a lot of people into the finals for tomorrow. I am excited to see how things play out. We should see a lot of new personal bests."
