Track sends seven to NCAA East Preliminary Round; Baseball heads to McNeese for Southland Championship Series

HAMMOND, La. – Seven Southeastern Louisiana University student-athletes will look to earn a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while the SLU baseball team will compete in the first-ever Southland Conference Championship Series during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Lion and Lady Lion track and field standouts will attempt to advance to next month's national meet with strong showings at the NCAA East Preliminary Round competition, scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday in Bloomington, Indiana.
 
Eugene Omalla (400 meters, 6:25 p.m.) and Agerian Jackson (400 meter hurdles, 7:20 p.m.) will be the first SLU representatives to compete Wednesday. Thursday will see Kristian Jackson participate in the women's shot put at 6 p.m.
 
Slavko Stevic is the first to participate Friday in the 1:30 p.m. high jump competition. Later in the day, the quartet of Agerian Jackson, Eugene Omalla, Gerson Pozo and Jaimie Omalla compete in the 4x400 meter relay at 7:45 p.m.
 
Kristian Jackson will compete in the women's discus at noon Saturday. Katrine Olsen is the final SLU representative to compete in Saturday's 1:30 p.m. high jump.
 
The Southeastern baseball team (28-28) will travel to Lake Charles to face top-seeded McNeese in the league's best two-of-three championship series. The series runs Thursday through Saturday with first pitch set for 6 p.m. all three days. The winner earns the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The 2022 season of Inside Southeastern Baseball with Matt Riser continues Monday at 12 p.m. from the patio of Pour House Pizza and Beer Garden. Riser will join co-host Allen Waddell at lunchtime every Monday during the season for the 60-minute show, talking the latest in Southeastern baseball. Pour House is located at 505 W.
