Lions Earn Fifth Southland Golf Title in School History

SLU wins Southland Golf title in convincing fashion

Final Standings

MCKINNEY, Texas –
The Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team triumphed its way to the Southland Conference Tournament title winning by 10 strokes Wednesday during the final round of the 2022 Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship at Stonebridge Country Club (Dye Course).

SLU entered the final round with a 13-stroke lead and never looked back as it led by as many as 16 shots Wednesday. The Lions had three players finish in the top 10 of the individual standings, including Charlie Forster, Logan Kuehn and Michael Landry.

Forster, a freshman, shot 76 (+4) for the final round as he finished tied for the third on the leaderboard. The England native scattered six bogeys and had two birdies to finish the tournament at +2. However, Forster finished with a tournament-high 13 birdies in 54 holes.

Kuehn and Landry both were tied for eighth place at +7. Kuehn, out of Lake Charles, Louisiana, fired a 74 (+2) in the decisive round. The St. Louis Catholic High School grad shot -2 for the front nine holes but had to fight off a pair of double bogeys on the back nine.

Landry, the sophomore, shot 75 (+3) Wednesday and overcame a triple bogey on the 10th hole as the rest of his round included three birdies and three bogeys. Grayson Glorioso placed 17th for Southeastern while Cameron Mobley was 30th.

"It was extremely hard despite the margin of victory," said Narro. "Which makes it even more gratifying. But when we clinched and knew we had won the tournament, there were a lot of emotions running through my mind. I was relieved, grateful and humbled by it. A lot of hard work went into this and it was rewarding today for all of us."

UIW's Joe Buenfield won the individual title at even par while Francis Marion placed second behind SLU at +38.

Southeastern has now won three of its last four tournaments, including the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 8, the Ellendale Intercollegiate on March 29 and Wednesday's conference title.

With the win, SLU earned a spot in the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Tournament and its fifth conference title in school history (2013, 2010, 2000 and 1998), its first under seventh-year head coach Jake Narro.

The Lions will find out which of the six regional sites they will participate in when the NCAA Division I field is announced Wednesday May 4 at 3 p.m. on the Golf Channel. Regional play is set for May 15-18.
