SLU Splits on Opening Day of Southland Championships, Earns Program’s First Postseason Win

HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 4-seeded Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team defeated No. 5-seeded Nicholls, 4-1, Friday, earning the first postseason win in program history, before falling to No. 1-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 4-0, Third Coast Volleyball Club on the opening day of action at the Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championships.
 
Southeastern picked up straight-set wins in the first, third, fourth and fifth matches against Nicholls (1-24).
 
Hannah Barosh and Michelle Mirarchi picked up the Beach Lions' first point with a 21-14, 21-11 win in the third.
 
Tied up, 1-1, Mabry Ward and Eryn Wilks put SLU back in the lead, taking the fifth flight, 21-10, 21-10.
 
Jolie Hidalgo and Meagan Scuderi clinched the team victory with a 21-16, 21-18 win at No. 1. Avery Carroll and Linsey Sackett finished off the dual with a 21-17, 21-12 win in the fourth flight.
 
Southeastern (12-20) lost in straight sets against the Islanders (19-12), leaving the fourth flight unfinished.
 
UP NEXT
Nicholls and No. 2-seeded HBU will kick off Saturday's action with an elimination dual at 11 a.m., and the winner will face Southeastern at 1 p.m. The Islanders and No. 3-seeded UNO will face off at noon CT Saturday for a spot in Sunday's championship dual, while the loser will need to win one more match at 11 a.m. Sunday to make it to the 1 p.m. title match.
