SLU Defeats Nicholls, Drops Three at Battle on the Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team dropped three of its four duals this weekend at the Battle on the Bayou, splitting Friday's action – falling 3-2 to Central Arkansas before bouncing back with a 4-1 win over Nicholls – and dropping both contests Saturday by identical 5-0 scores to New Orleans and No. 5-ranked LSU at LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
 
Four of the five matches against Central Arkansas (14-11) went to three sets, with the Beach Lions winning two of those four.
 
Southeastern's No. 1 pair of Jolie Hidalgo and Meagan Scuderi picked up a point with a 21-18, 20-22, 15-12 win. SLU's other point against the Sugar Bears came in the third flight as Hannah Brewer and Jackie McGee picked up a 21-18, 18-21, 16-14 win.
 
The Beach Lions nearly pulled off a sweep of Nicholls (1-21), earning all four points in straight sets. Nicholls' lone point came in a three-set victory in the second flight.
 
Hidalgo and Scuderi won by identical 21-13, 21-13 scores. Brewer and McGee also won by identical scores, 21-19, 21-19, in the third flight. At No. 4, Avery Carroll and Ariana Hebert registered a 21-12, 21-18 win. Mabry Ward and Eryn Wilks earned their 18th win as a pair, 21-10, 21-19, in the fifth flight.
 
Against UNO (18-13), Southeastern fell in straight sets in every flight except the fifth where Avery Carroll and Ariana Hebert forced a deciding third set.
 
In the final dual of the event, SLU (11-19) fell in straight sets to host LSU (27-8).
 
UP NEXT
SLU heads to the Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championships next weekend at Third Coast Volleyball Club in Houston, Texas. All five Southland schools will be participating with the winner advancing to the NCAA Championships, May 6-8, in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
